Middle school band gets OK to expand

Fifth-grade band is coming to a district near you.

The Cedar Grove-Belgium School Board last week approved bumping half-time band director Zach Prior to an 83% position to offer fifth-grade band.

This allows district students to play an instrument from fifth grade through high school.

Prior leads the seventh and eighth-grade bands, and Alanna Ford handles the sixth grade and high school bands.

Middle School Principal Kelly Dzurick  said there may be some team teaching in band next year, especially since Prior is a brass player and Ford is a woodwind player, but details haven’t been worked out.
