Marion M. Macek Huiras

Marion M. Macek Huiras, age 97, of Port Washington, Wis., found peace Monday, Oct. 16, 2023, at Harbor Campus in Port Washington.

A lifelong resident of Port Washington, Marion was born Jan. 18, 1926, to Sylvester “Snookie” and Mary C. Ratatori Grasser.

She graduated from Port Washington High School with the Class of 1943.

On March 2, 1946, Marion married Henry A. “Hank” Macek from Cudahy, Wis., at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Port Washington. They raised their family on Madison Avenue in Port Washington.

Over the years, Marion was active in St. Mary’s Parish, St. Mary’s Christian Women and the Daughters of Isabella.

She was a proud homemaker, mom and grandma. For a few years she worked at Port Washington High School.

Hank and Marion later moved to Eva Street in Port Washington.

On April 9, 1989, Hank preceded her in death. But Marion was fortunate to find love again later in life. On Oct. 19, 2001, she married Marvin “Marv” Huiras of Belgium, Wis., at St. Mary’s Church.

For the next nearly 20 years, they made their home a family hub and holiday gathering place for children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. As the saying goes, “It all happens at Grandma’s.”

She and Marv also were fortunate to travel across the country and continent in that time, visiting cities in such places as Arizona, Alaska and Nova Scotia.

Marion and Marv would later move to Harbor Campus, where Marv preceded her in death on May 7, 2020.

Marion will be forever remembered for her sharp wit and blunt humor — which never declined with age — and her seemingly endless love for her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, which also never declined with age. She lived a long and proud life as the matriarch of an ever-growing family.

Marion is survived by her brother Paul (Anne) Grasser of Flagstaff, Ariz., and children Kristine (Keith) Resnick of Sun City West, Ariz., Karin (John) McKelvey of Fort Atkinson, Wis., Karl (Nancy) Macek of Grafton, Wis., Kurt (Lynn) Macek DDS of Milford, Penn., Kay Macek of Port Washington and Kolette (Benjamin) Salas of Port Washington.

She is further survived by her grandchildren Tanya Schelach, Khara (Brad) Schank, Shaun (Jenny) McKelvey, Rachel (Marc) McKelvey, Rebecca (Doug) Brown, Mitchell (Emma) Macek, Noah (Nicole) Macek, Nick Macek, Paul (Jen) Macek, Julia (Courage) Osaro, Katy Macek, Danny (Emily) Macek, Alex Salas and Sarissa Salas and great-grandchildren Xavier, Natalya, Isaiah, Axton, Angelina, Samantha, Dillinger, Rhydian, Hollis, Annix, Levi, Jonah, Adela, Bijou and Elliot; as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Her sister Arlene and her husband Howard preceded Marion in death, as well as her brothers Sylvester and Norman Grasser.

Family services have been held.

Memorials to the Port Washington Historical Society are appreciated.

Poole Funeral Home/Crematory, Port Washington, Wis., assisted the family.
