Marilyn M. Erlwig

Mrs. Marilyn Erlwig of Port Washington, formerly of Oostburg, passed away surrounded by her loving family on Wednesday, Nov. 30, 2022, at Harbor Campus in Port Washington, where she had been a resident.  She was 90 years old.

Marilyn was born in West Allis on May 25, 1932, the daughter of Martin and Marie (nee Esselmann) Neumann.

She grew up in the West Allis area and attended Mercy High School in Milwaukee, graduating with the Class of 1950.

On June 7, 1952, she married the love of her life, Kenneth Erlwig, at St. Aloysius Catholic Church in West Allis.

In 1960, the couple moved to Port Washington to raise their family.

Marilyn worked as an administrative assistant at Port Washington High School for more than 25 years.

After her retirement, she and Ken moved to Oostburg.

Marilyn was a member of St. John XXII Catholic Parish and a former member of Blessed Trinity Parish in Sheboygan Falls.

Marilyn loved spending time with her family at their cottage in Tomahawk.

She enjoyed crafting, was an accomplished painter, enjoyed playing golf with the Hawthorne Honeys and was in many local bridge clubs.

Marilyn is survived by her three loving children, Bryan (Liz) Erlwig and Jim Erlwig, both of Port Washington, and Karen (Don) Buser of Greer, S.C.

She is further survived by her seven grandchildren, Lindsey, Emma, Chad, Amy, Andrew, Morgan and Bryce; eight great-grandchildren; her sister-in-law Shirley (the late Fredrick) Helms; nieces; nephews; other relatives; and many friends.

She was preceded in death in 2014 by her husband Ken, her sister LaVerne (the late Al) Choinski and sisters and brothers-in-law Audrey and Bert Liebenstein and Elinor and Lester Even.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, Dec. 9, 2022, at 1 p.m. at St. John XXIII Parish, St. Mary’s Church, in Port Washington. Father Patrick Wendt will preside over the Mass.

Visitation will be at the church on Friday, Dec. 9, from 11 a.m. until the Mass.

She will be laid to rest next to her husband at St. Mary’s Mausoleum in Port Washington.

The Erlwig family wishes to thank the staff at Harbor Campus and Allay Hospice for all of their care and compassion.
