Main Street work rolls on

Contractors are putting in sidewalk approaches near the railroad tracks on Main Street in Belgium this week, after crews finished installing blacktop last week. On Thursday, the new portion of blacktop is to be striped. Some sod still needs to be laid, and two new streetlights will be installed on the newly paved section. Two other streetlights will be replaced since a contractor damaged one with a piece of equipment and another was mounted too low. Those won’t be charged to the village, Public Works Director Dan Birenbaum said. Travelers are encouraged to continue to take the detour route from Highway LL south to Highway A, then to Highway 57 and back to Highway D. The project’s completion date is Nov. 20.
