Mailman honored for a lifesaving delivery

Ozaukee County Sheriff Jim Johnson (left) gave mail carrier Anthony Salva a handshake and a sheriff’s coin during a brief ceremony at the Cedarburg Post Office on Thursday, April 8, in recognition of Salva’s astute observations that are credited with saving the life of a Town of Cedarburg man. On Thursday, March 25, Salva reported to his supervisor that several days of mail had accumulated at the house of a man on his rural route who typically picks up his mail every day. The Post Office notified the Sheriff’s Office, and when a deputy arrived he found an elderly man on the floor of the home in dire need of medical attention and hospitalization. “On behalf of the Ozaukee County Sheriff’s Office, I commend the actions of Rural Carrier Anthony Salva for his care and compassion for a fellow citizen,” Johnson said during the ceremony. “His notification of the circumstances he observed put into motion the instruments that were critical in the preservation of life.”                                                                                     Photo by Sam Arendt
