Machinery firm poised to expand local plant

An addition to Matrix Packaging Machinery that will nearly double its operating space has been approved by the village of Saukville. 

The Saukville-based packaging system manufacturer will build a 27,648-square-foot addition to the east side of its 35,522-square-foot building at 650 N. Dekora Woods Blvd.

The project will also add roughly 7,500 square feet of paved area that will be used for trucks using the addition’s loading docks.

The total project cost is estimated to be $2.4 million. 

Catalyst Construction, in. studio architecture and Site Engineering Services have been contracted to complete the work.

Village Administrator Dawn Wagner said during an Oct. 19 Community Development Authority meeting that the project abides by village codes, has been reviewed by the village engineer for storm water management and fits within village utility, public works and fire requirements. 

The project was unanimously approved by the CDA on Oct. 19 with several conditions. The conditions included paying village fees, final review by the village building inspector and utility department, a guarantee that Dekora Woods Boulevard be kept clear of dirt during the earthwork portion of the project and that the new space adhere to village fire code requirements. 

Grafton Assistant Fire Chief Matt Karpinski said in an email to the village that after reviewing the project, he saw no concerns, but noted that the current fire department connection line will have to be reviewed to ensure the location is appropriate for the new space. 

He also noted it should be confirmed that an emergency radio system is not needed for the site and emergency lights in the expansion should be clearly defined and code compliant.

Following approval of the project, Village President Barb Dickman thanked Matrix Representatives and contractors for growing the village business base. 

“Thank you for expanding in Saukville,” she said.
