Lutheran buzzes past CG-B girls

Manitowoc team uses fast start to throttle Rockets in Big East Conference game

The Cedar Grove-Belgium girls’ basketball team ran into a buzzsaw last Friday night against Manitowoc Lutheran.
The host Rockets fell behind, 40-17, at halftime on the way to a 74-35 loss in Big East Conference play.
Ellie Felsinger led the Rockets with 13 points.
CGB“They started the game off hitting a very high percentage of shots and put us in a hole right away,” Cedar Grove-Belgium coach Jason Jones said.
“After that, our girls never quit, but it was too big a hole and too good of a team to come back.”
Emily Behnke led 11 Lutheran scorers with 17 points.
On Dec. 5, the Rockets used a 30-20 first-half edge to top Sheboygan Christian, 53-44, on the road.
Felsinger scored 21 points, going 7-for-16 on floor shooting and 6-for-9 on free throws. She added seven rebounds.
Amanda Meerdink scored 12 and had seven boards. Alex Mentink had eight rebounds.
“Ellie has been playing better. She is gaining confidence and finding what works for her in the games,” Jones said.
“Amanda Meerdink has been a solid player for us all year long. She plays great defense and plays tough on offense.”
This week, the Rockets — 1-4 in the conference and 2-4 overall — played Campbellsport on Tuesday and will host Oostburg (5-0 Big East) on Thursday.
