Lorraine Large

Lorraine Mary Large of the Town of Belgium passed away surrounded by her loving family in the early hours of Thursday, Dec. 1, 2022. She was 88 years old.

Lorraine was born in the Town of Belgium on June 11, 1934, the daughter of John and Catherine (Schumacher) Kleckner.

On Aug. 7, 1954, she married Donald Large (1933-2013) at Holy Cross Catholic Church, also in the Town of Belgium, and together they had seven children.

Lorraine and Donald farmed on the family farm until 1995. During that time, she not only cared for her seven children but played a major role in the farm’s day-to-day operations.

As a homemaker, she brought many skills, including sewing clothes for her children, crocheting blankets, cooking, baking, gardening and canning.

She was a member of Divine Savior Parish, Holy Cross Christian Mothers  and the American Legion Auxiliary Post 412, Belgium, Wis.

Lorraine was an avid quilter. She made a quilt for every member of her family, including the family pets. Lorraine enjoyed ceramics, sheepshead, bingo and puzzles.

She treasured attending her grandkids’ sporting events and helping others in need.

Above all, her family was her world.

Lorraine is survived by her seven children, Cindy (Al) Schmitz, Bonnie (Dan) Brunner, Bill (Cindy) Large, Donald (Cathy) Large, Dan (Annie) Large, Sandra (Martha) Large and Mary Kay (Ricky) Heinold; 21 grandchildren; and 26 great-grandchildren.  She is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband Donald; siblings Henry Kleckner, Rosemary Petesch, Robert Kleckner, Earl Kleckner and Eleanor Prom.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 6 p.m. Friday, Dec. 9, 2022, at Divine Savior Catholic Parish, Holy Cross Chapel, 5330 County Rd. B, Belgium, Wis. The family will receive visitors at the church from 3 to 5:45 p.m.

Lorraine will be laid to rest at Holy Cross Chapel in Belgium.
