The Belgium Town Board this month approved new summer recycling hours.

From May through September, the dump will be open one hour earlier on Saturdays, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. The old summer hours were 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Supr. Tom Bichler said the extension helps accommodate people who travel on weekends.

“I think it’s basically because of summertime,” Town Chairman Tom Winker said. “A lot of people down by the lake want the weekends for themselves.”

The Wednesday night summer hours from 5 to 8 p.m. remain unchanged.
