Local artist featured at center in August

Local artist Paula Hare is the Cedarburg Cultural Center’s August artist in residence.

A lifelong artist, designer and creative director, Hare earned her bachelor of fine arts degree from the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee and has more than 32 years of experience as a graphic designer and creative director at her own 12-person design firm.

Hare, a representational oil painter inspired by Andrew Wyeth and other realist painters, creates work grounded in strong composition and visual storytelling. Her paintings reflect decades of drawing experience and feature thoughtful compositions, unusual juxtapositions and subtle narratives that invite viewers to look beyond the obvious.

Her artwork has been juried into museum and gallery exhibitions locally, nationally and internationally.

Hare will demonstrate her art from 1 to 5 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 12, and Tuesday, Aug. 25; from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 13; and from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 20, Friday, Aug. 21, Wednesday, Aug. 26, and Thursday, Aug. 27.

She will also teach a Learn to Paint from Photos class from 9:30 a.m, to 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 25.

The hands-on workshop will help participants transform their photographs into compelling paintings while learning the importance of underpainting, drawing, design, value and confident brushwork

The class is suitable for artists working in oils or acrylics and is designed for both beginners and experienced painters. A supply list is available online.

The cost is $58 for center members and $70 for nonmembers.
