Lions distributing student-made holiday cards to older adults

In past years, the Lions delivered gift bags in person to seniors, but the coronavirus put an end to that tradition this year. Instead, seniors will get the Christmas cards with gift cards enclosed. Another local holiday tradition has been altered because of Covid-19, with the Fredonia Lions Club now distributing greeting cards to local senior citizens this season instead of delivering gift baskets.

Each gift card will be designed and decorated by students from Ozaukee Elementary School and include a $10 grocery gift card.

About 130 gift cards will go out to single seniors.

For more than 30 years, Fredonia Lions gathered items such as food, paper goods and toiletries, assembled them into Christmas gift baskets and delivered them by hand to single seniors in the Fredonia area.

Last year, about 120 gift baskets were delivered.

In addition, the Fredonia Lions Club is again sponsoring a Holiday Heroes Blood Drive from noon to 5 p.m. Friday, Dec. 18, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Fredonia.
