The Grafton Lions Club’s 32nd annual chicken roast is still on after initial reports that this year’s event had been canceled.

“Someone found a post on Facebook saying the event was canceled, but it was for the Grafton Lions Club in West Virginia,” event organizer Dan Delorit said.

“The event is a go, and we hope to sell about 800 chicken dinners. This is usually our biggest fundraising event.”

The chicken roast, which was canceled last year due to the coronavirus pandemic, will be held in Veterans Memorial Park on 13th Avenue  from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, June 13.

Because of the Facebook snafu, Delorit said, the club is extending the preorder date  for meals to Tuesday, June 8.

This year’s event is carryout only due to the coronavirus, and there will be no live music or games.

Delorit said 13th Avenue will be turned into a one-way street for the event, and people are asked to enter the park from  North Avenue.

Delorit said there are about 300 dinner tickets available for $13 apiece. Tickets purchased the day of the event will cost $14.

“We really need our community support for this fundraising event because this allows us to support other causes in Grafton,” Delorit said. “We hope we can have a big turnout this year.”

Tickets can be purchased in advance by visiting at www.grafton-lions-club.square.site.
