Lion’s Den Gorge awakes to a reluctant spring

After a hard winter and in the midst of a cold spring, with its wetlands filled to overflowing by frequent rains, the Lion’s Den Gorge Nature Preserve in the Town of Grafton is poised to burst into its verdant season. But judging from the steely sky, leafless trees and last year’s cattails in this photograph made by Amy Boehm of Port Washington on May 19, the greening of the preserve is still a few weeks away. Nevertheless, Amy and her camera found beauty in this captured scene of nature in the raw.
