Lifelong district resident garners 69% of vote to win seat on School Board

Voters on Tuesday gave an overwhelming victory to Jodi Schubert in a race for the Town of Fredonia seat on the Northern Ozaukee School Board.

Schubert received 1,438 votes, or 68.9% of those cast, compared to her opponent Lauren Simmons’ 631 votes, or 30.2%, according to preliminary results reported by the Ozaukee County Clerk’s Office.

Schubert, 47, has lived in the district her entire life, graduated from Ozaukee High School, has children at Ozaukee middle and high schools and has long volunteered to help with various school-related functions.

She has worked as a registered nurse at Ascension Columbia St. Mary’s for 22 years.

She told Ozaukee Press last week that one of the challenges facing the Northern Ozaukee School District is retaining and attracting students through open enrollment.

“I feel like we have challenges retaining students,” she said. “We need to find ways to make ourselves more marketable.”

One way to accomplish that, she said, is to continue to develop the district’s technology education offerings in an effort to prepare students for careers.

“Let’s be honest, not every student is headed to a four-year college,” Schubert said.

Schubert said that the district’s size should be a selling point.

“We have small class sizes. The teachers and administrators care about students and they know who every single child is,” she said. “As a parent, I think that is great.”

Schubert will succeed Suzanne Miller.

Also Tuesday, Mindy Tesker was elected to fill the Town of Saukville seat currently held by outgoing board member Rick Hamm, while Dan Large was re-elected to his Town of Belgium seat.
