LETTER: Will of the people is respected only when it favors Republicans

To Ozaukee Press:
Mark Jefferson, executive director of Wisconsin’s Republican Party, was quoted as saying, “It’s a pattern of pure petulance from Democrats: from the Act 10 recalls to the 2016 presidential recounts, after a loss, they try, and fail, to overturn elections and undermine the will of the voters.”
That statement would be completely laughable if it weren’t so duplicitous and hypocritical. The Republican-controlled state Legislature began overturning the will of Wisconsin voters immediately following the election of Gov. Tony Evers and Attorney General Josh Kaul. This was accomplished with passage of the vengeful lame-duck laws specifically contrived to nullify the results of the 2018 election.
Wisconsin voters elected Evers and Kaul based upon their platforms to move Wisconsin forward on health care, education, roads and environmental protection.
With his arrogant statement, Jefferson unconditionally asserts that the will of the voters is to only be accepted when Republicans are elected, but not when the Republican Party’s uncompromising partisan policies and candidates are rejected by the will of the voters.
