LETTER: Why do so many of us dislike Trump? Let’s count the reasons

 I am writing in response to the letter to the editor from Timothy Landing in last week’s Ozaukee Press.

I take issue with his erroneous comment that Democrats dislike Trump because “they couldn’t handle defeat.” We accepted the defeat of Hilary Clinton a long time ago. If any of the other Republican candidates had been nominated and subsequently elected, we certainly would have been disappointed, but we would have waited patiently for the next election.

We dislike Trump because of his actions and policies, including the following:

He has made in excess of 10,000 false or misleading statements since his inauguration and has convinced intelligent people like Mr. Landing that lies are truth and the truth is lies.

He bragged about assaulting women and essentially gave other men the green light to engage in this abhorrent behavior. He stated that some white supremacists are good people.

Trump does not believe that Russia interfered in our elections and is doing nothing to prevent this from happening again. He imposed tariffs that hurt businesses, farmers and consumers. He believes climate change is a hoax and took the U.S. out of the Paris climate agreement. He signed a resolution that allows dumping mining waste into our waterways and is attempting to dismantle other rules that limit air and water pollution.

 Trump told four female members of Congress, three of whom were born in the United States and all of whom are U.S. citizens, to “go back to their own countries.” He has made disparaging comments about people of color and of non-Christian faiths, immigrants, asylum seekers and people who live in third world countries. He allows innocent children to be separated from their parents and placed in facilities that are not equipped to supply them with basic human needs.     

This is only a partial list of why I, other Democrats and many other people dislike Trump.
