LETTER: Unlimited gun access denies Americans freedom from fear

To Ozaukee Press:

“A well-regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.”

Those were the actual words added to the Constitution on Dec. 15, 1791.

In the text of that Second Amendment, I couldn’t find any references to the legality of the AK-47, AR-15 and other military type assault rifles or that it is desirable to allow thousands of gun deaths each year in favor of free access to guns of every sort.  

Our founders weren’t perfect, but did they really think it was good for all of us to be afraid to go to church, school, grocery stores and other places while simply going about our daily lives?  

Is this what we call freedom?
