LETTER: Trump war didn’t defeat Iran, it made it $300 billion richer
To Ozaukee Press:
Can anyone predict how much terrorism can be bought with $300 billion?
How many ballistic missiles can Iran build with $300 billion? How many attack drones? How many Hezbollah cells can it fund? How many suicide vests? How much enriched uranium can it provide?
Iran has proven itself to be one of the most significant state sponsors of terrorism on the planet. They fired ballistic missiles and drones at Middle Eastern cities and United States military bases in response to the U.S. attack. Thirteen U.S. soldiers were killed and over 350 wounded.
And now President Trump wants to give them $300 billion (that’s with a “B”) so his ill-advised war can just go away. It didn’t work out like it was supposed to, so Mr. Art of the Deal is willing to give Iran a really sweet pile of cash so he can go back to planning his gold-plated ballroom.
Trump’s incompetent “secretary of war,” Pete Hegseth, a Fox TV host, failed to do what real military leaders do: consult actual experts in order to plan and conduct a successful military action. He didn’t even consider non-military options that would have saved lives—that wasn’t macho enough for a blow-hard Fox News veteran. No, non-military actions don’t get catchy names like “Epic Fury.”
The result was a catastrophic failure, which led to the unnecessary deaths of U.S. military personnel, the depletion of our weapons stockpile and the loss of billions of dollars’ worth of military equipment paid for by U.S. taxpayers—losses that could have been avoided with adequate planning and preparation.
All this was brought to you by Ron Johnson, Glenn Grothman and the rest of our Republican Congressional delegation who approved Hegseth’s appointment and then let all of this unfold while they sat there and did nothing. Nice work, guys.
What will $300 billion buy Iran? Thanks to Trump’s disastrous decisions, I think the world will soon find out.
