LETTER: Tacky taste and gold plating make White House fit for king

To Ozaukee Press:

When Donald Trump finally leaves Washington it could take decades to undo and repair the physical damage he will leave in his wake.

He ended his first term by allowing a horde of grunting barbarians to defile the “Citadel of our Democracy” (the Capitol) and started his second by defacing the White House, painting it all over with a tasteless, gaudy gold plating.

By this time it should be clear to all that he is determined to erase the historic beauty and democratic significance of the “People’s House” and leave standing in its place a gilded palace rivaling Versailles: fit not for an elected American resident but rather for an emperor or a king.

Once this grand monument to himself is completed it will be difficult to imagine how long it may take to restore the native grandeur and elegance of our capital city.

However long, it must be done.
