LETTER: Swamp is overflowing and our government is a kleptocracy

To Ozaukee Press:

Over two years into his administration Donald Trump just keeps on lying. One of his latest whoppers was his claim that his father Fred was born in Germany. In fact his dad was born in New York City in 1905.

The Washington Post recently reported that Trump has now made 9,451 false or misleading claims. Trump also recently claimed that the noise from a wind turbine causes cancer, but of course he has no evidence of this. He lied about the hush money payments to an adult film star and a Playboy model. He lied about his contacts with Russia. We now know he was trying to build an office tower in Moscow and for all we know he is still pursuing this project.

Many of Trump’s campaign promises have gone unfulfilled. No new health care plan, no infrastructure plan, and we all know that Mexico is not going to pay for any kind of border wall.

Also, Trump most definitely did not “drain the swamp.” Several Trump insiders have already been indicted and sentenced, cabinet members have been forced out for ethics violations and then there’s Trump himself. He has turned our once proud democracy into a kleptocracy. He seeks status and personal gain at our expense.

As of this February, Trump had visited Mar-a-Lago 81 times and spent 222 days at a Trump property. The Government Accountability Office estimates the Mar-a-Lago trips cost taxpayers $3.4 million apiece. Trump is taking advantage of all of us. This from a guy who promised he would have no time to play golf.

Trump’s buy American campaign is also somewhat of a cruel joke. Anyone who has shopped at Target, Walmart or Meijer recently knows that almost all consumer goods are still made overseas. Blue jeans from Mexico, bath towels from India and electronics from Japan.

Trump has failed miserably in his role as a leader. He has embarrassed millions of us on the left and made fools of his supporters on the right. He is a dishonest, immoral, corrupt and selfish man. America must do better next time.
