LETTER: Smith would be a refreshing change from Trump yes-man
To Ozaukee Press:
When I moved to Wisconsin some years ago, I worked a table for Milwaukee Public Radio at a local music concert in a park. A man came to our table and made snide comments about NPR. When he left, I said to the other woman helping, “What a strange man.”
Rep. Glenn Grothman has made national news several times since for shockingly negative comments and gaffes. Google it. He’s our career politician, District 6 congressman and yes-vote to Donald Trump.
I have attended two meet-the-challenger-to-Grothman events at the Mequon library community room. Candidate Brad Smith opened the sessions by welcoming Republicans, Independents and Democrats alike. He sincerely wants to hear from everyone. He’s been working hard, meeting people across this huge, gerrymandered district spanning 11 counties. Brad Smith grew up in the northern part of the district and now lives humbly in Mequon with his wife and two young sons.
Smith is a military veteran who used the GI Bill to be the first in his family to earn a college degree. His small-town background, with experience bailing hay on his grandpa’s farm, makes him the kind of guy who respects everyone. He knows business too, having worked at a small Milwaukee software company that served Briggs & Stratton and Harley-Davidson. He rose to vice president.
Want guardrails on AI centers? From Brad’s tech experience, he knows they need regulation—immediately. We have a strong candidate who will work for affordable health care, a healthy environment for future generations and a stable economy. If you are sick of billionaires and giant corporations getting breaks while the rest of us support them with our taxes, I hope you will join me in voting for Brad Smith for Congress and all Democrats on or before Nov. 3.
