LETTER: Port Washington’s Nicest Day

To Ozaukee Press:

The 45th annual Disabled Vet’s Fish Outing, the event that has earned the distinction of being called “Port Washington’s Nicest Day,” was a great success again this year.

A total of 74 disabled veterans, including a number in wheelchairs, were able to enjoy a morning of fishing on Lake Michigan and a fish boil and cookout for lunch, along with delicious desserts.

All of this showed the love, respect and appreciation we have for our veterans and the sacrifices they made for us and our country.

The veterans said they had a fantastic time and hope to join us again next year.

We would like to take this opportunity to publicly thank all of the boaters, contributors, fish cleaners, cooks, bakers, servers and other volunteers for all the help they provided.

We also thank Adam Draeger and the staff of Inventor’s Brew

Pub at the American Legion clubhouse for working with us throughout the process of organizing this special day and Christ the King Lutheran Church for the use of their facilities to do food prep work the night before the outing.

Thank you also the sports teams of Port Washington High School for helping the veterans get on and off the boats and to the grade school students who decorated table coverings and painted rocks for handout to the veterans.

We look forward to being with all of you again next year for our 46th outing.
