LETTER: From new home, Food Pantry expands its founding mission
To Ozaukee Press:
It’s been over 46 years since The Food Pantry Inc. began providing food and support to those in need in Port Washington. It has expanded to serving hundreds throughout Ozaukee County. Support comes from civic organizations, businesses, the City of Port Washington, local churches and individuals in Ozaukee County—a truly community-supported food pantry.
We are deeply grateful for that compassion and willingness to help others.
In mid-October we moved in to our new building at 1777 W. Grand Ave. in Port Washington. The move went very smoothly thanks to the many volunteers, including the eighth graders at St. John XXIII, Port High students, Mr. Mover and other friends and families in our community.
This support helps ensure that our shelves are stocked and our doors remain open so individuals and families have access to nutritious food and the reassurance that our community is there for them.
Every dollar contributed and every food item donated turns into meals, hope and comfort. In addition to food, The Food Pantry offers clothing, household items, school supplies, Christmas and birthday gifts. It also provides a place where our volunteers and guests socialize, sharing the events in their lives, their concerns and their happy experiences.
Now we are looking forward to having a teaching kitchen and garden and other educational opportunities.
But most important, at our core we will be distributing food to people in need, and we need continued support from the volunteers, individual donors, businesses, churches and parishes. This pantry is an essential part of our community; it is Port’s beacon of hope. Community members who would like to be a part of this volunteerism and support can reach out to us at thefoodpantryinc.com or by email to thefoodpantryinc@gmail.com.
