LETTER: How about using a fish tug as a food stand in downtown Port?

At issue in the controversy over the proposal to put a food trailer on a vacant lot in downtown Port Washington is the question of whether an Airstream trailer projects the right image for Port Washington.

With Port Washington’s rich history as a commercial fishing port, I think the solution could lie in doing what the city of Duluth has done on its lakefront.

The fishing tug currently located at NewPort Shores and used as a back drop for a bar could be converted into a snack stand similar to what can be found in Duluth.

On the Duluth lakefront, a fishing tug is partially buried with a semi-circular ramp leading to the vessel for ordering and receiving food and beverages.

I don’t know what is planned for the NewPort Shores tug when the restaurant is demolished to make way for a development. However, I think a vintage fish tug is a better image for Port than an Airstream trailer.
