LETTER: Grothman voted for law that puts cash in family’s pockets

To Ozaukee Press:

One of Congress’s most important responsibilities is helping hardworking

Americans keep more of the money they earn. I appreciate Rep. Glenn

Grothman’s support for the middle-class tax relief enacted by Republicans last year.

The new law provides deductions for qualified tips and overtime pay, along with an additional $6,000 deduction for eligible seniors age 65 and older. It also doubled the maximum child tax credit, which keeps more money in parents’ pockets when they need it most. These changes are making a real difference for working parents, service workers, employees putting in extra hours, and retirees trying to stretch their budgets.

According to the Tax Foundation, a tax-policy research organization, the average Wisconsin tax filer is projected to receive a $3,177 federal tax cut in 2026 under the law’s combined provisions. Actual savings vary by income and eligibility, but this estimate illustrates the potential impact on Wisconsin taxpayers. The expanded child tax credit is particularly welcome because families face rising expenses for groceries, housing, clothing, and education.

Grothman deserves credit for supporting these measures and standing up for Wisconsin workers, families and seniors. I appreciate his support for policies intended to let people keep more of their hard-earned pay.

Every Democrat in both the House and Senate voted against these provisions for economic relief for hard-working American seniors and workers.

Wisconsin families deserve serious consideration of policies that affect their household budgets, and I hope Rep. Grothman and Congress continue working to ease their tax burden.
