LETTER: Grothman’s silence in face of Trump’s racist talk is shameful

To Ozaukee Press:

To Rep. Glenn Grothman:

Just about one year ago, you made a great display over signing a civility statement. I sent you a letter at that time, and also wrote an open letter to you in the Ozaukee Press. These did not receive any comment from you.

I encouraged you to hold the president accountable to civility, as well.

Knowing his character, I assumed that would be unlikely, but as leader of our great nation, it is imperative.

And now, he has crossed the line again, and more glaringly than ever.

In his recent racist comments, he has again demonstrated that he is not only uncivil, but he is un-American.

“Have you no sense of decency, sir, at long last? Have you no sense of decency?”

I hope you recognize this quote from the very dark McCarthy era in our nation’s history.

We are again in a very dark period.

This quote applies to the president and it applies to you as well, as you didn’t have the courage, the civility or the decency to condemn his statements and hold him accountable in the House of Representatives last week.

I am embarrassed.

We deserve better from you.

Shame on you.
