LETTER: A GOP candidate got it right when he said, ‘Trump is nuts’

With each passing day it is becoming apparent to more Americans what a serious mistake it was to elect a man with no government experience or political experience to lead the executive branch of our nation.

Consider that just in the last few weeks Donald Trump has claimed that he “is the chosen one,” wondered if he could give himself the Medal of Honor, claimed that Jewish Americans were disloyal if they didn’t vote for him and wants to hold next year’s G7 conference at his own Donald Trump country club so he can profit from an official government function.

Trump also claimed that his third and present wife got to know Kim Jung Un “very well,” even though she never met him. Trump wanted to buy Greenland, and when told it wasn’t for sale called the female prime minister of Denmark, which owns the autonomously governed island, a “nasty woman.”

This is just a sampling of his inane comments and tweets. Trump is becoming more unhinged by the day. Former U.S. Rep. Joe Walsh of Illinois, who is challenging Trump for the 2020 Republican presidential nomination, put it succinctly when he said “Trump is nuts.”

Trump’s base has seemingly pledged their allegiance not to the United States of America, but to Donald Trump himself. That’s why fascism is so dangerous. Trump has somehow convinced his base not to trust America’s institutions, not to read the newspapers or watch the nightly TV news, but believe only what he tells them, and yet Trump is a pathological liar, astoundingly having told over 12,000 lies so far.

And in the midst of all this chaos, nothing is getting accomplished. Trump has added trillions of dollars to the deficit; there has been no progress on combating climate change; there is no infrastructure bill.

Former Massachusetts Gov. Bill Weld, another of Trump’s 2020 Republican challengers, said Trump is a clear and present danger to America. At this point most Americans agree with Gov. Weld.
