LETTER: Glasstein priorities: people’s needs, not party-line politics 

To Ozaukee Press:

As an independent voter, I don’t expect my representative to agree with me on every issue. I do expect someone who will listen—to me, to our community and to people with different perspectives—and who will work hard to find solutions that serve our communities rather than simply follow a party line. That is why I am supporting Dana Glasstein.

I have worked with Dana at the Adult Literacy Center in Grafton, and I have seen firsthand her many years of commitment to education and to helping people overcome barriers and build better lives. As an educator, she has the experience to dig deeply into the challenges facing our schools and find ways to improve education and funding. Dana understands that Wisconsin’s future depends on giving our children the education and opportunities they need to succeed—and giving them reasons to stay here and help our communities thrive.

Dana believes health care and child care should be affordable, public schools adequately funded, and Wisconsin’s natural resources, personal freedoms and fair elections protected. She is also committed to making our communities safer.

We are all feeling the effects of inflation—in the grocery store, housing, health care, child care and just about everything else. These issues require thoughtful debate and action, not simply party-line politics.

I have not seen the independent, constituent-focused leadership our district deserves from our current representative, Paul Melotik. He has disappointed me on important issues—from child care and education to conservation, economic development and putting appropriate guardrails on data centers. 

In recent legislative sessions, less than 4% of Democratic-authored bills had a public hearing. I don’t want our representatives making decisions in an echo chamber. Do you?
