LETTER: Don’t blame the president for erosion of U.S. moral character
To Ozaukee Press:
Could it be that the erosion of the moral code in the United States, referred to in a letter to the editor in last week’s Ozaukee Press (“What happened to the moral code that once defined U.S.?”), began to accelerate with the growing acceptance of abortion and euthanasia?
Or was it when we began to see the federal government as the solution to all our problems instead of looking left and right and helping our neighbors ourselves?
Trillion-dollar budget deficits and a $39 trillion national debt are a moral issue that no one ever mentions but is a millstone around the neck of future generations.
Maybe it was when the rule of law began to be treated like a buffet table by whatever political group is in power or when civil discourse was replaced by who can shout the loudest?
All I know is that blaming the current president for it is not fair. Fairness would be acknowledging that blame should be shared by many people, including ourselves.
