LETTER: Benning and administrator would be good team for Port

Dan Benning has earned our vote for mayor in a few short years as our fourth district alderman. His early retirement from Johnson Controls following 30 years of service has made him even more available to serve the community as our “coordinator of voluntary citizens” who share his desire to serve their community.

To understand the mayor’s role in a small city like Port Washington, you must first understand how the city runs on a day-to-day basis. The city administrator position, filled currently by Anthony Brown, oversees staff and implements policy established by elected and appointed officials. The administrator is paid to keep the city on track to achieve the goals of the many committees and commissions; a facilitator to move forward the wishes of the people as represented by their elected officials.

The mayor’s role is to provide qualified city residents to assist the committees and commissions in enforcing codes and regulations, monitoring city infrastructure, planning the controlled growth of the city and many more services desired by the residents.

Dan has displayed all the qualities of a team player as a member of the Finance Committee and by originating the new Diversity and Inclusion Committee.

A vote for Ald. Benning as mayor will continue to grow an already established relationship between Dan and Anthony as co-leaders of our fine city.
