LETTER: Be optimistic: we will survive dark age of the Trump reign
To Ozaukee Press:
The past year has been sad and challenging but ultimately enlightening for the United States. A disgraced former president, one who had been impeached twice, tried to overturn the results of the 2020 election with lies and a deadly and destructive insurrection at our Capitol, a man convicted of 34 felonies and found liable for sexual assault, took office again a year ago. He was the voters’ choice, but no one had any idea things would get this bad so quickly.
The cruel underbelly of Project 2025 has been exposed. The pure hatred of immigrants and people of color. Women treated as second class citizens. The glorification of corruption and the cultlike adoration of Trump.
And yet we remain optimistic and committed to democracy, compassion and decency. History will judge the Trump years as an aberration. We will overcome the darkness. Goodness and truth will prevail.
