Lake Church is topic for presentation

The Ozaukee County Historical Society will head a presentation on the history of Lake Church during its 7 p.m. Monday, Feb. 6, meeting.

Lake Church may be a small community, but it has an intriguing past — a nun tried to burn down St. Mary’s School, a priest was tarred and feathered by the KKK and for decades it was home to one of the most state-of-the-art shoe production plants in the country.

The meeting will be in the Port Washington State Bank Community Room, 218 E. Washington St.

The presentation by local historian, Kevin Wester will focus on his book, “Lake Church, Wisconsin: A Pictorial History.”

Wester, who was born in Port Washington and raised in Belgium, has published numerous family and community histories through the years.

He was among the organizers of the Luxembourg American Cultural Society and Center, served as the first board chairman and was the society’s first full-time staff person, serving as director of development and later as executive director.

There is no fee for the program, which is open to the public.

Refreshments will be served following the presentation.
