Kwik Trip is knocking out approvals one by one on its way to opening a store in the Village of Belgium.

The company has completed the purchase of the site of How-Dea Service Center. It plans to raze the building and construct a new gas station and convenience store there.

The Luxembourg Cafe is on the property as well. Kwik Trip plans to allow the restaurant to operate as it has been.

The Village Board last month approved the company’s storm water management plan. Kwik Trip’s design has runoff draining into one of 10 catch basins.

Three oil skimmers will surround both canopies to limit the chances of contamination, according to plans submitted by the company.

Everything drains to the northeast corner of the property and will settle in a detention pond. If there’s overflow, it will be funneled into a ditch line near the northeast corner of the property.

The Plan Commission in October approved Kwik Trip’s building application contingent on the village engineer’s review, and OK’d a sign permit contingent on the Zoning Board of Appeals’ approval. The sign is slated to be 60 feet tall, double the village’s allowance.

The ZBA last month approved the sign. Kwik Trip is adding the word “restaurant” under the sign for Luxembourg Cafe, Village Clerk Julie Lesar said.
