Krier grant to benefit NOSD again

The Northern Ozaukee School District in Fredonia  has been awarded a $129,000 grant from the Bruce Krier Foundation that will be used to update the Ozaukee Elementary School library’s media center.

This is the fourth year in a row that the district has received a grant from the foundation. In those four years, foundation grants to NOSD have totaled $610,300, according to a press release from the district.

The Random Lake-based foundation supports education and the environment, focusing on grants to local schools, environmental programs and college scholarships for graduates of local high schools.

It is named after Bruce Krier, who owned and operated Krier Foods in Random Lake until he died in 2013 of complications related to cancer. 

The grant will be used to upgrade the library’s media and technology offerings and creating collaborative workspaces, NOSD Supt. Dave Karrels said in a press release.

“Through the funding of this grant we will be able to create a top notch OES Library Media Center on our campus,” he said. 

In 2019, a grant was used to upgrade and create the Bruce Krier Library Media Center in the Ozaukee Middle and High School library, which included purchasing new furniture, adding collaborative workspaces and upgrading technology.

In 2018, grant funds were used to create the Bruce Krier Innovation Room, complete NOSD wireless infrastructure upgrades and purchase 200 Chromebooks, making it possible for students in grades three through 12 to have a Chromebook. 

In 2017, a grant made it possible for the district to integrate additional iPads into classrooms, update its computer lab and classroom laptops and replace staff laptops.
