Kay Hamann

Kay Hamann of Saukville went to her heavenly home the morning of Aug. 27, 2026, while surrounded by her loving family. She was 85 years old.

Born in Milwaukee on May 30, 1941, to Henry and Harriet (nee Le Dain) Knapp, Kay attended local schools before graduated from Custer High School in 1959. She went on to attend Spencerian Business College in Milwaukee, graduating in 1963 with a degree in accounting. 

On May 1, 1965, Kay was united in marriage with Robert “Bob” Hamann at Albright Methodist Church in Milwaukee. The couple settled in Milwaukee and began their family. 

Kay worked in the accounting department for A&P Food Stores until 1977, when the family moved to Saukville. Kay later worked at Sunlite Plastics, Richardson Industries and Granite Stone. She retired from an accounting position with Planned Parenthood in May 2006.  

Kay loved traveling, and as a couple she and Bob took trips all over the United States as they explored National Parks, U.S. presidential libraries and other historic places. They made it to every state except Hawaii, and even as far as Germany and the Holy Land. 

Bob preceded Kay in death in 2019.

Kay was a vital member of Grand Avenue United Methodist Church in Port Washington. She was on the Finance Committee, Ad Council, Awesome Women  and Trustees. She loved Christmas and was the driving force behind getting the large sanctuary tree up and the church decorated every year. 

She was also an active member of her community, serving on the Saukville Library Board from 2008 to 2021 and volunteering as a poll worker from 2007 until 2023. When her girls were younger, Kay stepped up as a Girl Scout Troop leader. 

Kay took joy in many hobbies including gardening and crafts. She enjoyed sewing and took sewing classes with her daughter Beth for more than 20 years at the Whitefish Bay Rec Department, where she made many friends. Kay was also proud of bowling a 600 series in her bowling league.

Mrs. Hamann is survived by her daughters Beth (Mark) Davis of Glendale and Sue (Andrew Hunn) Hamann of Madison, granddaughters Erika (Zech Ward) Davis of Milwaukee and Jenny Davis of Glendale and great-grandson Zion Ward. She is further survived by other family members and friends.

Kay was preceded in death by her husband Bob, brother Donald Knapp and parents Henry and Harriet Knapp.

Funeral Services were held at 4 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 1, 2026, at Grand Avenue United Methodist Church, 505 W. Grand Avenue, Port Washington, Wis. The Rev. Jerry Cho presided. The family received visitors at the church from 2 to 4 p.m. 

Kay was laid to rest beside her husband at Wisconsin Memorial Park in Brookfield the following day. 

If desired, memorials are suggested to Grand Avenue United Methodist Church in her name. 

Eernisse Funeral Home in Port Washington assisted the family with arrangements.
