Kathleen R. Bares

Kathleen R. Bares of the Town of Belgium was called to her heavenly home Thursday morning, Aug. 8, 2024, at the age of 89.

She was born in Belgium, Wis., to John and Sylvina (nee Rach) Hubing on Dec. 31, 1934.

On Aug. 27, 1955, Kathleen married the love of her life, Kenneth Bares (1933-1999), at St. Nicholas Catholic Church in Dacada and together they raised five beautiful children.

Kathleen worked in the office alongside Kenneth at Bares Alignment in Belgium, which she and her husband owned until their retirement.

Kathleen was a member of the Christian Mothers at Holy Cross Catholic Church.

Kathleen was known for her famous cookies that she made weekly and put in the freezer for her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who would go home with a bag from every visit.

Kathleen was very talented at sewing quilts; she hand sewed several hundred quilts in her lifetime. Her family will cherish these quilts forever. Most recently she was sewing baby quilts for Children’s Hospital.

  She is survived by three daughters, Lois (Richard) Husting of Port Washington, Linda (Kenneth) Watry of Fredonia and Sharon (Roger) Vande Boom of Grafton; two sons, Dean (Jodi) and Dennis (Lynn) of Fredonia; 15 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren with another one due in August; her sister Mary Bares of Fredonia; and brother Jerry (Arlene) Hubing of Belgium; along with sisters-in-law Sandra Hubing, Jean Bares and Leona Bares of Belgium, Dorothy Harrington of Port Washington and Betty Gottsacker of Shawno. A special thank you to Jane.

She was proceeded in death by her parents, husband Kenneth, three grandchildren, many brothers and sisters-in-law.

A Mass of Christian Burial for Kathleen will take place at 6 p.m. Friday, Aug. 16, 2024, at Divine Savior Catholic Parish, Holy Cross Chapel, 5330 County Hwy. B, Belgium, WI 53004. The family will receive visitors at the church from 3:30 to 5:50 p.m.

Kathleen will be laid to rest next to her husband Ken at Holy Cross Parish Cemetery, Belgium, Wis.
