Kathleen M. Nickel

    Ms. Kathy Nickel of Saukville passed away peacefully at Lawlis Family Hospice Center in Mequon on Saturday, May 22, 2021. She was 82 years old.
    Kathy was born in Milwaukee on May 29, 1938, the daughter of George and Margaret Bertram Schultz.
    The family moved to Port Washington, where she attended St. Mary’s Catholic School and graduated from Port Washington High School in 1956.
    She later became a member of St. Peters of Alcantara Parish in Port Washington.
    As a divorced mother, Kathy independently guided and nurtured her children while maintaining two jobs. Kathy was a well-known cook and waitress at Harry’s restaurant, as well as a cobbler for over 30 years at Allen Edmonds from 1974 until her retirement, after which she relocated to Saukville.
    Kathy was passionate about spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and especially took pleasure in taking them on car rides looking for deer (never “shining” though). Kathy was a social butterfly and enjoyed her time with her neighbors, often driving those without cars to appointments while she remained in the car and “people watched.” Her car was her outlet, and she continued driving until her health determined otherwise. On her daily car rides she would stop at the McDonalds drive-thru in Saukville where she became affectionately known as “Grandma Kathy.”
    A resilient, compassionate and witty person, Kathy will be forever loved and missed by all those whose lives were touched by knowing her, and her influence and values she has instilled live on in her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
    Those left to honor her memory include her three children, Bob (Sue) Nickel of Watertown, Terrie (Gary) Large of Port Washington and Tammy (Nick) Roethle of Pella, and seven grandchildren, Joshua, Brianna, Gary, Jesse, Cassie, Cody and Kasey.
    She is further survived by six great-grandchildren, Levi, Cierra, Devon, Violet, Evelyn and Charlotte; brother Steve (Alice) Schultz; nieces Kim (Paul) Voeller and Ann (Rich) Miller; nephew Bill Schultz; and special great-nephew JJ (Sabrina) Buczek, as well as other family and friends.
    She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Laverne Godersky, brother-in-law Jim Godersky, nephew Mike Godersky and great-nephew Tyler Buczek.
    A celebration of life is being planned for a future date.
