Joseph D. Bennett

Joe Bennett of Fredonia passed away unexpectedly at his residence Thursday evening, Dec. 19, 2019. He was 24 years old.

Joseph was born in Milwaukee on Jan. 24, 1995, the son of Victor and Barbara Sargent Bennett.

Joe grew up in Fredonia and attended local schools, graduating from Ozaukee High School in 2013 before going on to attain an associate’s degree in English from UW-Washington County in 2016.

He was passionate about writing, especially in the fantasy-fiction genre, and was part of many online forums for writers. Joe enjoyed playing video games and liked to use superheroes in his pieces, often reworking plot lines and branching out ideas.

Above all, he appreciated his family and will be remembered as a big, lovable, teddy-bear-of-a-man who had a fondness for mashed potatoes.

When he wasn’t writing, Joe worked at Pizza Hut in Port Washington, where he had been a server for the past four years.

He is survived by his father Victor of Fredonia and 10 aunts and uncles, Ken (Karen) Sargent of Adell, Elaine (Gerry) Bauer of Auburndale, Bob (Patsy) Sargent of Adell, Ed (Willie) Sargent of Mankato, Minn., Linda (John) Serrano of Glendale, Bill Sargent of Greenville, S.C., Dan Sargent of Kiel, Jerry Sargent of West Allis, Pam (the late James) Bennett of Oconomowoc and Christine Gering of Greendale. Joe is further survived by numerous cousins, other family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his mother Barbara and aunt Joyce Schone.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 28, at Vineyard Church, 1597 Hwy. V, Grafton, with Pastor Pat Mulcahy presiding.

The family will receive visitors at the church on Saturday from 9 a.m. until services at 11 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Milwaukee Rescue Mission, Salvation Army or a charity of the donor’s choice.

Eernisse Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements. Online condolences may be left at www.eernissefuneralhome.com.
