John J. Kultgen

John J. Kultgen, 85, of Byron, Ill., died Monday, July 5, 2021 in OSF St. Anthony Medical Center, Rockford, Ill.

He was born Nov. 22, 1935, in Fredonia, Wis, the son of Leo and Ann (Weyker) Kultgen.

John was a graduate of Port Washington High School and a U.S. Army veteran who served in the Korean War.

He was married to Pamela Branson on Sept. 25, 1993, in Chana, Ill.

John farmed in Chana and was employed in industrial concrete construction in the Chana and Rochelle areas for 20 years, retiring in 1998.     

He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Byron. John was an avid Green Bay Packer fan and was very involved with his family and grandchildren’s activities. He enjoyed travel, the outdoors and golfing.

He is survived by his wife, Pam Kultgen of Byron; sons John (Jan) Kultgen II and Jason (Gina) Kultgen, both of Byron; step-daughters Tammy (Chuck) Fox of Madison, Wis., and Barb (Joe) Schroeder of Bourbonnais; grandchildren Olivia, Allison, Rachel, Grace, Ava, Lucy, Adam, Megan, Rob, Andy and Kristen; three great grandchildren; brothers Henry (Judy) Kultgen of Fredonia and Paul (Bev) Kultgen of
Random Lake, Wis.; and sister Mary Schommer of Fredonia.

He was predeceased by his parents and brothers Alfred Kultgen and Leander Kulgen.

 A funeral Mass will be held at 6:30 p.m., Friday, July 9, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Byron with Rev. Richard Rosinski as celebrant.

Visitation will be from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. Friday in the church.

Burial will occur at St. Rose of Lima Cemetery, Fredonia, at 11 a.m. Monday, July 12.

Memorials in John’s name may be made to the St. Vincent DePaul Society at St. Mary Catholic Church, Byron.
