Jean P. Haas

Jean P. Haas, a cherished pillar of her family and a beloved member of the Cedarburg community, passed away peacefully of natural causes on April 6, 2026, at the Lakehouse of Cedarburg.

Born on Nov. 26, 1935, in Cedarburg, Wis., Jean lived a richly fulfilling life marked by love, dedication and a true passion for caring for others.

Jean was a proud graduate of Cedarburg High School in 1953, a foundation from which she launched a life characterized by remarkable achievements and enduring generosity.

Her career journey took her to leadership roles at Enercon in Grafton and at Terrior in Mayville, Wis., where she was respected as a dependable and skilled lead person. Most notably, Jean, alongside her devoted daughter Carol, co-founded Country Elegance in Cedarburg — a charming enterprise that flourished for 26 years. There, Jean’s talents as a gifted seamstress and her eye for unique gifts brought warmth and beauty to many homes, while her excellence was recognized with the esteemed Golden Scissors Award for her fabulous seamstress work.

Jean’s heart was as expansive as her talents. She had an unwavering love for animals, especially the bears she lovingly raised. Jean created stuffed bears to donate to numerous organizations. This tender act reflected her quiet, nurturing spirit and her desire to bring comfort and joy to others.

Above all, Jean treasured spending time with her family, creating memories filled with love and laughter that will forever be a source of comfort to those who knew her.

Jean was known to be a person who made everyone feel at ease. She was a trustworthy babysitter and a steadfast presence in the lives of her loved ones, always ready with kindness and support. Her personality was a guiding light — a true pillar of strength and gentleness.

Jean is lovingly remembered by her daughter Carol (Dennis) Nothem and her son Dale Haas. She was a proud grandmother to Sarah (Kevin) Byrne, Matt (Robyn) Nothem, Jared (Brittany) Nothem, Casey (Susan) Haas and Jacob (Emily) Haas, and she embraced the joy of having 13 great-grandchildren. Her family circle was further enriched by her siblings Betty Spaltner and Joan (Jim) Wolterstorff and her sister-in-law Nancy Meinert, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and many cherished friends, all of whom held her in great affection.

Jean was preceded in death by her beloved parents Merle and Dorothy (nee Polzin) Meinert, her husband Robert “Whitey” Haas, siblings Richard and Rex Meinert and nephews Louis and David Meinert. Their memory remains intertwined with hers, a treasured part of her legacy.

A visitation to honor Jean’s memory will be held on Saturday, April 18, 2026, from 10 to 11:45 a.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 701 Washington St., Grafton, WI 53024. Following the visitation, a funeral service will take place at the church beginning at noon. 

Interment will be held at St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery in Grafton immediately after the service.

Jean P. Haas’s life was a remarkable tapestry of love, skill and kindness that touched all those fortunate enough to know her. She will be deeply missed but lovingly remembered as a beacon of grace, unwavering devotion and the warm heart of her family.
