Janette Alice Altschafl

We are sad to announce that our beloved mother Janette Alice Altschafl passed away in her home, holding the hand of her daughter Linda, on Wednesday, Oct. 2, 2024. She was 38 days into her 100th year of life, of which she was very proud!
She was born on Aug. 26, 1925, to Harry and Melinda Hansen in Milwaukee, Wis.
She graduated from Custer High School in 1944.
On Oct. 28,1948, she married the love of her life, Frank X. Altschafl. They spent 62 years of life together.
Janette was a beautiful woman inside and out. She was truly kind and devoted to her family and friends. She had a deep and abiding faith that touched everything and everyone she loved. She did not always have an easy life, but she lived it with integrity, resilience and gratitude for everything she had.
Janette loved her flowers and garden at our family home in Mequon. She was a great cook and made a dessert every evening for dinner while we were growing up. She loved to play cards and loved to win even better! Janette and Frank traveled extensively with good friends Harry and Shirley Skarr.
Janette was a longtime member of Grace Lutheran Church in Thiensville. She lived at Lasata Senior Living Campus in Cedarburg for 14 years. She was so happy there! She loved the staff, the friends she made, the food and all the activities that she participated in.
Those left to cherish her memory are her children Dr. James (Julie) Altschafl, Linda (Jon) Schauske and Michael Altschafl; her grandchildren Chad (Stephanie) Altschafl, Jeremy (Beth) Altschafl, Meghan Schauske, Jonathan Schauske (Erin Choudoir) and Kristin (Steve) VanRite; and nine wonderful great grandchildren! She is further survived by her beloved sister Gloria Kraft, many nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends. We will miss her so deeply.
Janette was preceded in death by her husband Frank, who passed away Nov. 16, 2010, her granddaughter Sara Elizabeth Altschafl and her brothers LeRoy, Harry, Gerald and Russell.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, Oct. 12, 2024, at Eernisse Funeral Home, 1167 Washington Ave., Cedarburg, Wis. We will greet our family and friends from 10 a.m. to noon, with a service to follow.
Janette will be laid to rest next to our dad at Wisconsin Memorial at a later date.
We would like to thank the staff at Lasata for their loving care and friendship and Horizon Hospice for their care and compassion to our mom and us.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in Janette’s name can be made to St. Jude; Grace Lutheran Church, 303 Green Bay Rd., Thiensville WI 53092; or a charity of your choice.
