Introducing Port’s service dogs

The annual decade dance sponsored by the Van Ells-Schanen American Legion Post and Auxiliary on March 7 was more than just a chance for people to have fun, it was an opportunity to raise funds for Project Bravo, which funds the training of service dogs for area veterans, and meet a few of those canine helpers. At this year’s event, organizers made the first of two $15,000 payments to train Walt, who when trained will be paired with a member of the Port Legion Post. Attending the dance were (front row, from left) trainer Mackenzie Miller with Cricket, who is in training, Heather Maase with Hero, who is also in training, Maya Maase with Walt and Keegan Smith with Flair; (second row) Legion and Auxiliary members Wade Walla, Jim Schmidt, Tina Mach, Mod Leannah, Diane Burkhalter, Mary Marchese, Kathy Wendt, Rick Gahan, Vicky Gahan, (back row) Jamie Mercer, Karen Kuttler, Linda Buser and Ray Leannah.
