Ilene C. LeGros

Ilene C. LeGros (Berg) passed away peacefully on Dec. 7, 2025, at her home in Brookfield, Ill., surrounded by her cherished husband and family.

Born on April 14, 1954, in Eau Claire, Wis., Ilene was the daughter of the late Romain and Berdella (Severson) Berg.

A 1972 graduate of Random Lake High School, she pursued her passion for fashion illustration at the Ray Vogue School of Art in Chicago.

She worked for Chas A. Stevens as an illustrator for the women’s clothing chain. She became an independent freelance artist doing illustrations with children’s books, advertising and commercial products for many clients, including the Chicago Tribune and Chicago Sun Times.

Ilene’s career was defined by her artistry, meticulous attention to detail and a natural ability to see the best in people. Those who knew her fondly remembered her as a loving, caring and endlessly cheerful individual who made others feel seen and valued.

Her strength and courage throughout her battle with lung cancer were a testament to her unwavering character and the quiet resilience she cultivated throughout her life.

Ilene is survived by her devoted husband Robert “Bob” LeGros; her stepchildren Christopher (Theresa) LeGros and Jaime (LeGros) James Serback; and her cherished step-grandchildren Leah, Daniel, Matthew and Casey.

She is further survived by her brother Gary Berg; her sisters Vicky McManus (Doug) and Beverly Hagel (Steve); her niece Carmen Cossette Prom (Tim) and great-nieces Charlotte, Vivienne and Margot; along with many extended family members and friends who will miss her dearly.
