Homecoming festivities start Sunday at GHS

Homecoming week with a road-trip theme kicks off at Grafton High School this weekend. 

Festivities begin Sept. 26 and close Oct. 2 with the homecoming dance. 

To prepare for the week of school celebrations ahead, the Student Council will decorate the hallways from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday and class windows will be decorated from 1 to 3 p.m., making for a festive return Monday for students. 

Also on Sept. 26, students can drop off Cozy Coupe children’s roller cars from 1 to 3 p.m. The cars will be decorated by each class throughout the week. 

The class with the best decorated coupe will be crowned at the end of the week. 

The homecoming parade will be held Thursday at 6:30 p.m. beginning at St. Paul Church and will be immediately followed by a pep rally on the school football field.

Dress-up days throughout the school week are Pajama Day on Monday, Twin Day on Tuesday, class themes on Wednesday, sports apparel on Thursday and spirit wear on Friday. 

In addition to the homecoming football game against South Milwaukee on Friday, there will be sporting events throughout the week. 

On Tuesday, there will be a soccer game at Slinger High School,  a swim meet at Whitefish Bay High School and a volleyball match at home. On Wednesday, there will be a tennis meet at home. On Thursday, there will be a cross-country meet in Slinger, a junior-varsity football game at South Milwaukee, a home soccer game and a tennis meet at West Bend East High School. 

Powderpuff teams will practice throughout the week, with the game immediately following the pep rally Thursday. 

Throughout the week, a series of contests will be held during all lunch periods. On Monday there will be a Fruit Roll-Ups challenge, on Tuesday stockings bowling, on Wednesday an Oreo cookie challenge, on Thursday musical chairs and on Friday wheelbarrow races. 

To close the week, the homecoming dance will be held in the school gymnasium from 8 to 11 p.m. Saturday.
