Helen Horn

Mrs. Helen Horn of Port Washington, formerly of Fredonia and Alamo, Texas, passed away in the morning hours of Wednesday, May 31, 2023, at Aurora Medical Center in Grafton. She was 94 years old.

Helen was born in Port Washington on Feb. 8, 1929, the daughter of Alfred and Anastasia (nee Paulus) Schmit.

She grew up in Port Washington but attended high school at St. Mary’s Academy in Prairie du Chien, graduating with the Class of 1948.

After high school, she attended Marquette University and obtained her degree as a dental hygienist. Helen worked for several local dentists for over 40 years until her retirement in 1994.

After her retirement, she moved to Alamo, Texas.

Helen is a former member of St. Rose of Lima Parish in Fredonia and Resurrection Catholic Church in Alamo, Texas.

She enjoyed playing golf and played with the Hawthorne Honeys golf league.  Helen also liked dancing, crafts and playing cards.

She is survived by her two children, Michael Meyer of Port Washington and Jean (Gary) Streff of Fredonia.

She is further survived by four grandchildren, John, Kate, Monica and Jason; seven great-grandchildren, Annabelle, Cali, Jenna, Colton, Adalyn, Lilly and Maya; one brother, George Schmit of Milwaukee; nieces; nephews; other relatives; and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her three husbands, Eugene Meyer, Edmund Stanczak and Lawrence Horn, her daughter Mary Meyer, two brothers and two sisters.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, June 14, at 11 a.m. at St. John XXIII Catholic Parish, St. Peter of Alcantara Church, Port Washington.

She will be laid to rest next to her first husband and her daughter in St. Rose of Lima Cemetery, Fredonia.
