Harold George Tackes

Harold George Tackes of Saukville, Wis., passed away unexpectedly at his home on Wednesday, Dec. 10, 2025, at the age of 80.

He was born the beloved son of George E. and Rosalie C. (Roob) Tackes on Oct. 28, 1945, at St. Alphonsus Hospital in Port Washington and grew up on the family farm. He graduated from Random Lake High School. Harold served in the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged on Jan. 26, 1972, after which he was employed at the Belgium Foundry.

Harold was united in marriage to Diane Kultgen on Dec. 4, 1976, and together they raised two beautiful children in the home they built.

Harold had many interests, including hunting and fishing. If he was not at home or work, he would be catching perch, bluegills and crappies for a Friday fish fry. He spent hours in his garden growing many of the vegetables we ate year-round (so many potatoes)! He added flowers and fruit trees later as well.

He loved nature and wildlife, and he would drive us around to spot deer. All of the trees he planted on the property were for the deer as well as all the nuts he harvested to feed them. He kept his bird feeders full and his bird identification book at hand. When not outdoors, he often had a nature program on television.

Harold enjoyed tinkering in his basement and working on various wood projects he made from the broken things he saved or disassembling old electronics to save the copper. His puzzle table was there as well, where he had a puzzle going year-round.

He always had a smile for you and time to chat. Laughter came easily. He will be very missed.

Harold is survived by his wife Diane, daughter Angela (Christopher) Burton, grandchildren Nigel Burton, Norianna Burton and Nadia Burton; his brother-in-law Raymond Kultgen, sisters Rita Rady and Carol Tackes and numerous nieces and nephews, other family members and friends, and his cat Mable.

He was preceded in death by his parents and in-laws, his sister Doris May and his son Robert G. Tackes.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at noon Tuesday, Dec. 30, 2025, at Divine Savior Catholic Parish, Holy Cross Chapel, 5330 County Hwy. B, Belgium, WI 53004.  The family will receive friends and relatives at the church from 10 a.m. until the service.

Eernisse Funeral Home of Port Washington is assisting the family with arrangements.
