A grand celebration for a nonagenarian

When longtime Port Washington resident Tillie Prom celebrated her 90th birthday July 19, it was time for a celebration befitting her years.

A weekend of activities, including an overnight camping excursion, games, music, fireworks and a prayer service, was held to mark the occasion.

Then her family — eight children, 23 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and their spouses and significant others — donned “Tillie’s Team” shirts and gathered around Prom, who was wearing a shirt declaring “Vintage 1929” shirt for a photo at the Port Washington sign on Highway 33 for a family photo.

Prom was born in Holy Cross and currently lives in the Town of Port Washington.

She cared for her family until her husband died in 1977, then became a real estate agent, working for various agencies in Ozaukee County until she gave up her license five years ago.

She works out at the Feith Family Ozaukee YMCA five days a week, continues to bowl weekly and, her family said, remains a role model for all.
