Grafton sweeps Port in volleyball

The scores got closer each game, but Grafton High School’s volleyball team dominated Port Washington at home on Oct. 9.

The Black Hawks won, 25-7, 25-16, 25-21, to sweep their rivals.

Jackie Tomashek had nine kills, and Neala Luedtke had six.

Josephine Gust had 10 assists.

Sara Paschke had 11 digs, Tomashek had 10 and Selena Esparza had nine.

Tomashek served three aces.

The No. 4-seeded Hawks on Tuesday beat Messmer, 25-9, 25-2, 25-9, and on Thursday host No. 5 Sheboygan Falls in the division 2 playoffs.

Sheboygan Falls on Tuesday beat No. 12 Carmen Northwest, 25-6, 25-5, 25-5.

The No. 10-seeded Pirates’ season came to a close on Tuesday at No. 7 Shorewood, 25-15, 15-17, 25-12, in the division 2 playoffs.

Cedar Grove-Belgium went 0-3 in the Gold Division of the Big East Tournament at Lakeland University on Saturday and took eighth place.

The Rockets lost to Howards Groe, 25-17, 25-14; Random Lake, 21-25, 25-22, 15-10; and the seventh-place match to Mishicot, 14-25, 25-20, 25-11.

The No. 6-seeded Rockets on Tuesday beat No. 11 Shoreland Lutheran, 21-25, 25-17, 27-25, 25-16, and play at No. 3 Kenosha St. Joseph on Thursday in the division 3 playoffs.

Ozaukee went 2-3 in the Big East Tournament and took fourth in the Silver Division. The Warriors lost to Reedsville, 25-14, 25-17; Sheboygan Lutheran, 25-20, 25-19; and Kohler, 26-24, 19-25, 15-11.

They beat Sheboygan Christian, 25-12, 25-21; and Elkhart Lake-Glenbeulah, 25-19, 25-21.

The No. 8-seeded Warriors had their season came to a close on Tuesday night in a five-set loss to No. 9 Kenosha Christian Life, 19-25, 25-14, 21-25, 25-17, 15-10.
