Grafton girls race to Nelson-Daniels title

Sophomore Grace Gasser won one event and senior Abby Cibulka took second in two individual events in leading the Grafton girls’ track and field team to victory in the small-school portion of the season-opening Nelson-Daniels Classic in Whitewater last Friday.

The Black Hawks scored 57 points to win the 24-team meet. Jefferson was second with 50.

Gasser won the high jump by clearing 5 feet. Cibulka was second in the long jump (17-6) and 55-meter dash (7.66 seconds).

The 800 relay of Delaney Reindl, Cibulka, Lizbeth Huertas and Jaden Mirek was second (1:53.25).

Kate Senczyszyn was third in the 400 dash (1:02.52), and Anna Eifert was third in the 3,200 run (13:38.64).

Grafton had three sixths: Jaden Mirek in the 55 dash (7.81); Julia Wille in the 1,600 run (5:48.73); and Taylor Weiss in the shot put (32-11.75).

In the boys’ portion of the meet, Grafton placed 14th with 17 points. Monona Grove won with 98.

The Hawks’ 3,200 relay of Ethan Lang, Victor Geiser, Sam Peters and Jonathon Weinhold took third (8:50.37).

The 800 relay of Caden Knauer, Joey Giorgi, Griffin Stenberg and John Kluck took fifth (1:39.35).

Grafton had three sixths: Gordy Thompson in the 1600 run (4:47.49); Victor Geiser in the 3,200 run (11:01.28) and the 1,600 relay of Jack Orlowski, Ian Bould, Weinhold and Lang (3:46.16).

This week, the Grafton boys will participate in the North Shore Conference indoor meet at Cedarburg on Thursday. The girls were scheduled to take part at the NSC indoor meet on Wednesday.
