Grafton Chamber to honor outstanding leaders, businesses

The Grafton Area Chamber of Commerce last week announced the four outstanding community leaders and businesses that will be celebrated at its annual awards reception.

At the Tuesday, April 29 event, the Outstanding Business Award will be received by Edgewater Golf Club, the Businesspersons Award by John Wirth of Digital Edge Copy and Print Centers, the Young Professional Award by Brianna Large of Handmade with Love and the Career Educator Award by Shannon Measener.

Edgewater Golf Club and its owners, Dave and Jeannie Hubacek, are being recognized for hosting charity events, supporting other local businesses and creating a community gathering place.

Dave Hubacek and his father-in-law George Battermann bought Edgewater in 1978 during what was originally meant to be a quick trip to get a set of golf clubs.

Edgewater is known for its restaurant, The Bunker, Friday fish fries and charity events for organizations such as the Grafton Legion and the Lions Club.

John Wirth, the director of sales and founder of Digital Edge Copy and Printer Centers, will be recognized for his community contributions and success in growing his business to three locations since opening in Grafton in 2009.

Wirth has been heavily involved in the Chamber. He’s served as its president, is the chairman of the golf outing planning committee and a member of the Christmas parade staging committee.

Most recently, he was integral in helping the Chamber bring back the Grafton Downtown Business Association that hosts the popular monthly second Saturday event.

Brianna Large, owner of downtown Grafton chocolate shop Handmade with Love, will be recognized for her partnerships with other local businesses and high-quality offerings.

“Brianna is a shining star in the downtown Grafton corridor,” according to the press release. “She is a quiet leader and is very respected by her peers.”

Long-time Grafton High School teacher Shannon Measner will be recognized for her 30th anniversary teaching at the school.

She is the advisor to the Model United Nations and Wisconsin Civics Games and has coached the boys’ and girls’ track and field teams.

Measner, a University of Wisconsin–Eau Claire graduate, founded the Grafton Teachers UW-Eau Claire Scholarship.

The reception begins at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, April 29, at the Ozaukee Non-Profit Center with music by the Grafton High School Symphony, followed by the program at 6 p.m.

The cost of the event is $55. Reservations can be made by Thursday, April 24, by calling the chamber at (262) 377-1650 or visiting www.grafton-wi.org.
